Anti-Doping violation of Mhlengi Gwala

World Triathlon

World Triathlon, a urine sample collected Mhlengi Gwala, a Para triathlete from South Africa reported Adverse Analytical Finding for GW1516 banned substance. The sample was taken in the in-competition test at the Europe Triathlon Para Cup Bari on September 18, 2022.

When the athlete was notified of the findings, he stated that the positive result was due to contamination of a supplement he had taken, and an investigation was initiated to determine this possibility.

The findings identified the source, and the evidence led the investigation to agree with the athlete’s statement that the positive outcome was likely due to contaminated supplements. Therefore, an 11-month exclusion period imposed by the World Triathlon dating back to October 24, 2022 is sanctioned.

Therefore, all race results since the positive test will be returned to DSQ, i.e. men’s PTS4 2022 European Triathlon Para Cup Bari and 2022 African Triathlon Championships Agadir – the races won – medals and podiums will be redistributed.
